Edible Bouquets and
Basket Bowers

Does your rabbit have the blahs? Is he sleeping more and binkying less? Pulling carpet? Chewing his cage? Grooming too much or too little? If so, your bunny may find his life... BORING! Maybe it’s time for both of you to add a little variety.

Excite your bunnies sense of sight, texture, taste and smell with two fun projects: edible bouquets and basket bowers. You will both have a lot of fun!

Edible Bouquets

Choose yummy and beautiful plants that are new to your bunny. Our list of edible plants is a good place to start. Select plants for scent, color and texture. The bouquets in the photo include: fennel fronds (taste, scent and texture), willow branches (texture and taste), roses (color, taste, scent and texture), wooly blue curl (color, taste and texture), lavender (scent, taste and texture), and white jasmine (scent). We used these plants to make a meadow out of our play yard. What is a meadow without grass, so we added some of that too. Mr. Shine and Patrick had a great time.

Basket Bowers

Wild rabbits survey the world from bushes: bushes which provide a safe hiding spot and a place to graze. BUNS gives rabbits laundry baskets in which to hide. Make your laundry basket even more fun, by weaving branches in and out of the holes. Choose edible and flexible plants for this project. We used willow, much to the approval of Prince Pudge and Junior. You can use citrus, pine, bamboo, loquat, and of course willow branches. Remove all fruit from the branches prior to use.

Just one warning: Be sure that none of the plants have been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides!
